Anticipation
At the University of Wyoming, there is a flourishing Communications and Journalism department to further me in my future career as a photojournalist. The Multimedia Production class specifically will help me better understand all forms of journalism to further my capabilities in general.
More specifically I am anticipating expanding my interviewing and reporting skills. I worked for The Branding Iron in Student Media at UW as a writer and, therefor, have some experience. However, I believe there is always room to grow in this area.
I am also experienced in photography as it is a hobby of mine and I am minoring in it at UW. Like interviewing and reporting, I believe there is always room to grow as a photographer. Currently I enjoy taking candid photos or portraits, as seen below, with my Nikon camera, but I am excited to expand on that in this Multimedia Production class.
Social Media is definitely something I am familiar with but only on a personal level. I have never thought of how I would use it as a form of advertising for my future journalistic career choice. Therefor, I am excited to learn how different social media platforms could further my career.
The two forms of media production which I have no experience with at all are audio and video. I am very excited to learn how to use those platforms as a form of journalism, though I am nervous I will be no good at those. I do believe those nerves will diminish as the course progresses of course.
Purpose
I am very interested in using this blog to showcase my photojournalistic career. I will demonstrate my photographic skills and my story telling skills through multiple medias. My topics will consist of Wyoming students and citizens, and Wyoming events found on and off the University of Wyoming campus. I am still very new, though, and am keeping a broad and open mind on what may interest me in journaling.
